Dear Colleague,
The 2024 Buchanan Lecturer is Dr. Adda Athanasopoulos-Zekkos who is an Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of California, Berkeley, since January 2020. Prior to this appointment, she was a faculty member in the CEE department at the University of Michigan (2008-2019). Her lecture is entitled “From miles to inches: Big data frameworks for levee health assessment”.
Also on the agenda is Dr. Paul Mayne, who will be presenting his 2023 Terzaghi Lecture entitled “Contributions Towards Geoparameter Evaluation Using the Cone Penetration Test”. Dr. Mayne is an international consultant on geotechnical site characterization and author of a multitude of publications. . He also served as a faculty member at Georgia Tech from 1990 to 2021.
The lectures will take place in person at the Hilton Hotel and Conference Center in College Station, TX, and will begin at 2:00 pm US Central Time on November 1st, 2024. Please relay to colleagues and students. A video will be posted here afterwards for those who are unable to attend. I hope to see many of you at the lecture which will be followed by a photo and a reception for all participants at our house.
